Gen Tiraan's R2-series astromech droid

An R2-series astromech droid belonged to Gen Tiraan, an engineer instrumental in the design of the X-wing starfighter by the Incom Corporation. Around 7 ABY, Tiraan possessed this droid in the Corellian system, where both the New Republic and the Galactic Empire showed interest in him due to his work on a more advanced and efficient sublight engine.

Seeking Tiraan, a team of Republic agents journeyed to the Corellian system. Upon their arrival, a Republic agent provided them with a decoded transmission, which contained blueprints for the engine. This transmission had been intercepted as it was being sent from one of the system's planets. The team then endeavored to find Tiraan and rescue both him and his astromech droid before the Empire could capture him and coerce the engineer into working for them.

Like all R2-series astromech droids in the R-series line, Tiraan's R2 unit was a product of Industrial Automaton.

Behind the scenes

The R2 unit belonging to Gen Tiraan received a mention in Wanted by Cracken, a 1993 sourcebook authored by Louis J. Prosperi for West End Games' Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The droid was listed as part of Tiraan's equipment in his game statistics, and it was visually represented alongside the engineer in an illustration created by Mike Jackson.
