Gideon Emery, born on September 12, 1972 in England, is a multifaceted talent, working as an actor, voice artist, and singer. He is recognized for his theatrical performances in South Africa, his voice work in numerous video games, and his portrayals of Senators Lott Dod and Mee Deechi in the animated series The Clone Wars.
Born in England, Gideon relocated to South Africa with his family during his childhood. As an only child, he entertained himself by mimicking voices from broadcast media, naturally leading him to pursue acting. He gained acceptance into both the Fine Arts and Drama departments at university but chose to enroll in the Drama department. While studying, he was convinced to audition for a professional stage production and was discovered by acclaimed stage actor Bill Flynn. Subsequently, he signed with a prominent agent, marking the beginning of his professional journey. He started doing voice-over work while continuing his education and quickly became a leading figure in the industry.
Emery garnered attention as a key member of "Not Quite Friday Night" (1995), a sketch comedy program akin to SNL, showcasing his innate talent for characterizations and accents. He later starred in the highly successful comedy Heel Against the Head, again collaborating with veteran Bill Flynn and renowned South African playwright Paul Slabolepszy. His performance earned him the Vita Award for Comedy, South Africa's equivalent to the Tony Awards. Emery is also a vocalist and became a member of the cult a cappella group Not The Midnight Mass. He merged his comedic and musical skills in the critically acclaimed Thin Man Talking and Great Glendini, for which he produced a jazz standards record.
Emery's on-screen appearances include the BBC biographical film "Rhodes" (1996), the fantasy film The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2002) with Kelly LeBrock and Robert Davi, the western Glory Glory (2000) alongside Steven Bauer, and the television thriller Red Water (2003) with Lou Diamond Phillips and Kristy Swanson. Since moving to Los Angeles, his credits encompass guest roles on "24" (2001) and "CSI: NY" (2004), as well as leading parts in the films Primeval (2007), Train (2008/I), and Takers (2010).
Emery is also well-known for his involvement in the Star Wars franchise. He voiced Col Serra, a commander in the Rebel Alliance and leader of Renegade Squadron in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, also serving as the game's narrator. He also returned to the role of Serra in the spin-off Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, although his contribution was not credited.
