Glah Ubooki was a merchant of the Bimm species, operating a shop in Glastro on the planet Bimmisaari. He specialized in importing goods from across the galaxy, offering a wide array of items ranging from advanced technology to exotic pets. Notably, he was also known for selling remnants from the Destruction of Alderaan to his clientele, as well as a glove reportedly once belonging to Darth Vader. A figure shrouded in mystery, Ubooki's appearance often seemed familiar to people throughout the galaxy, with some claiming to have conducted business with him in different shops in various locations. However, Ubooki consistently maintained that he only owned the shop known as Glah Ubooki's Strange & Wondrous Imports in Glastro.
Glah Ubooki was a male Bimm native to the planet Bimmisaari, and he had no fewer than seventeen identical brothers. Around the year 6 BBY, Ubooki stumbled upon the wreckage of a crashed Imperial Department of Military Research vessel within the asaari woods near his residence. Finding no survivors, Ubooki began to explore the debris, determined to recover valuable items before the arrival of Imperial forces. He discovered prototype weapons and equipment that the Empire was developing for use against the emerging Alliance to Restore the Republic. Upon returning home, he gathered seven of his brothers and revisited the crash site. Over the course of three hours, the siblings salvaged all the equipment they could manage to carry.
The brothers transported their recovered goods to Glastro, the closest city, with the intention of selling them. A Rebel smuggler noticed the equipment and, recognizing its worth, paid Ubooki and his brothers a substantial sum of credits for everything. Ubooki and his brothers enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle for several months, but as their funds began to dwindle, Ubooki proposed a plan to his brothers. They would pool their remaining money together to purchase a starship. Their intention was to search nearby systems for unique discoveries, similar to the R&D vessel, and then sell the salvaged materials. While the plan appeared optimistic, the brothers were emboldened by their consumption of Glastroan wine. Consequently, the eight brothers acquired a ship and embarked on a journey to seek their fortune.
Ubooki and his brothers achieved remarkable success. The Alliance and Imperial forces in the vicinity of Bimmisaari were limited in number, and their conflict primarily involved orbital bombardments and long-range missiles. Amidst the chaos, the Ubooki brothers gained access to abandoned facilities for extended periods, enabling them to recover salvage and information worth thousands of credits. After a few weeks, at a safe distance from the attack sites, they would sell their acquired goods to either side of the conflict, or even to the original owners from whom they had been stolen. To maintain secrecy, the brothers made sure they were never present in the market simultaneously. Only one brother would sell the items, identifying himself as "Glah Ubooki." This tactic helped protect their operation, as any potential threats would be searching for a single Bimm rather than a group.
As "Glah Ubooki"'s reputation grew, he was approached by smugglers, explorers, and pirates offering goods for sale. Until the time of the Battle of Endor, the Ubooki brothers primarily dealt in weapons and armor, but later shifted their focus to acquiring strange and wondrous alien artifacts. After amassing a significant collection of such items, the brothers eventually established a shop in Glastro on Bimmisaari. The business proved to be successful, and each of the seven brothers took a portion of the inventory to open shops on other planets, including Tatooine and Coruscant. The inside joke of them all being "Glah Ubooki" persisted, with each brother pretending to be the same individual and claiming that their store was the only one in existence. Over time, the ruse expanded to include more of Ubooki's brothers, resulting in eighteen shops operating across the galaxy. The Ubooki brothers celebrated their success annually with a week-long celebration.
