The principal leader of the Marasan government, also known as the Mindnet, was the Grand Daern. As with all Marasans, the Grand Daern was a cyborg capable of communicating with fellow Marasans using advanced computer implants. The Grand Daern's responsibility involved gathering information from the lower-ranking elected representatives, the Electnodes, quickly analyzing it, and subsequently making appropriate decisions. Because of the rapid communication and calculations facilitated by Marasan computer implants, this system functioned with great effectiveness.
Prior to the Imperial takeover of Marasai and the Marasa Nebula, Grand Daern Derra'makin was the final Marasan to occupy this role. He had to escape and conceal himself on a colony planet within the Nebula.
