Grant Imahara, an animatronics technician and modeler at Industrial Light & Magic, was the individual who controlled R2-D2's movements in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He also made a cameo appearance in the mockumentary R2-D2: Beneath the Dome, and was both a writer and actor for the TheForce.net fan film titled Architects of Evil. The in-universe company known as Imaharatronics derives its name from him.
Before a program restructuring, Grant Imahara, the creator of the Battlebot Deadblow, was also a cast member on Discovery Channel's MythBusters.
Imahara became a member of the fan organization, the 501st Legion, on April 2, 2011. He died on July 13, 2020 because of a brain aneurysm.
