Grath, a male Human commander within the stormtrooper ranks, was under the command of General Irrv. Their mission: to control Culroon III. The planet's native population, the Culroon, resisted Irrv's attempt to pacify them through a ceremonial weapon exchange, which ultimately failed. Grath managed to gather the stormtroopers until Lieutenant Maximilian Veers showed up piloting an All Terrain Armored Transport. Veers had previously suggested to Irrv that a show of force was the correct approach with the Culroon, and anticipated an apology from the general. Instead, Irrv threatened Veers with a court martial for insubordination, at which point Grath killed Irrv and promoted Veers to the rank of Major in the field.
During the Galactic Civil War, Grath, a male Human commander of stormtroopers, served the Galactic Empire. He was stationed on the remote planet of Culroon III, responsible for the security of Imperial researchers and the construction of a new Imperial garrison. General Irrv was given the task by the Emperor to bring the planet under Imperial control. He convinced Kloff, the local warlord, to participate in a ceremony where the Culroon and the Empire would exchange ceremonial weapons, symbolizing their acceptance of Imperial rule. Junior Lieutenant Maximilian Veers, who had studied the Culroon alongside Grath before Irrv's arrival, questioned Irrv's plan. Veers was convinced that a show of force was the only way to subjugate the Culroon, believing that Kloff was planning an attack during the ceremony.
Grath and a legion of stormtroopers, armed with ceremonial weapons unsuitable for combat, attended the ceremony. As it began, Kloff received a Naval sword from Irrv, which he promptly used to kill Colonel Jeffers, the general's aide. Kloff then initiated his ambush, with hidden warriors attacking the Imperial force using superior energy weapons. Grath rallied his troops to protect the general, but the stormtroopers were quickly overwhelmed. However, Lieutenant Veers, who had been confined to base for disagreeing with Irrv's plan, arrived in his All Terrain Armored Transport and began to repel the Culroon. Grath led the surviving stormtroopers to the safety of the walker, where Veers anticipated an apology from Irrv. Instead, Irrv reprimanded Veers, threatening a court-martial. In response, Grath shot the general in the back, killing him, and requested that Major Veers lead them back to base.
