The Great Hunt refers to a series of campaigns launched by the Jedi with the goal of eradicating Sith adherents and the dangerous legacies of the Great Sith War. These legacies included creatures like silan, immense Sith wyrms, and terentateks, monstrous beings native to Korriban that sustained themselves by consuming the blood of Force-sensitives.
Despite the Jedi's efforts, complete success eluded them in every instance. The terentateks consistently managed to recover their numbers, resurfacing whenever the Sith gained prominence.
Following the conclusion of the Great Sith War, the Jedi Council determined that the monstrous creations of Exar Kun and his followers could not be allowed to persist, particularly the terentatek, a creature that thrived on the blood of those sensitive to the Force. Consequently, the Council initiated the Great Hunt with the primary objective of eliminating the terentateks.
The Jedi Order eventually abandoned these hunts, deeming them excessively perilous. However, three Jedi—Shaela Nuur, Duron Qel-Droma, and Guun Han Saresh—were dispatched to conclude the hunt, as they possessed a potent Force bond that the Jedi Council believed would grant them the strength necessary to overcome the terentateks.
Regrettably, their mission ended in failure. During the hunt, Shaela and Duron developed a romantic relationship, which Guun Han condemned. Disregarding his warnings, they persisted as lovers, prompting Guun to abandon them, fearing that their love would lead them toward the dark side. Guun Han left them on Korriban, continuing the hunt independently while the lovers remained.
Tragically, they all met their demise. Shaela and Duron were ambushed by terentateks on Korriban, resulting in Duron's death. Overwhelmed by grief, Shaela succumbed to the dark side and attempted to wield it against the terentateks. This proved to be her undoing, as the crystal within her lightsaber was only compatible with followers of the light. Defenseless without her weapon, she quickly fell prey to the ferocious terentateks. Revan later discovered her remains during his search for the Star Maps.
After abandoning the lovers on Korriban, Guun Han ventured to Kashyyyk. There, he too was killed while pursuing terentateks. Neither party proved capable of overcoming the threat; the fracturing of their bond ultimately led to their downfall.
However, the fallen Jedi's mission was eventually accomplished when Revan eradicated the terentateks on both Kashyyyk and Korriban.
