The Great Tree, alternatively called the Spirit of Nyenthi'Oris, was situated within the Mysess Glade, which itself was a part of the larger Kkowir Forest. This tree held immense spiritual significance for the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, and the inhabitants of Kerritamba Village were its caretakers.
This tree was located upon a small but steep hill, situated on a small island within the Chenataa river. Adjacent to the tree, on another small hill, lay the Nyenthi'Oris Graveyard, a Wookiee burial site of great reverence.
A considerable time before 1.5 ABY, the Wookiees residing in the Kkowir Forest region faced an assault from a large number of wild Varactyls. The Wookiees withdrew to the strategic high ground provided by the Great Tree, which allowed them to successfully defend against the attacking creatures. Ultimately, the Wookiees managed to force the Varactyls to leave the Kkowir Forest.
At some point during the Galactic Civil War, the tree became afflicted with a disease. Initially, the Wookiees of Kerritamba Village suspected the Myyydril tribe of causing the decline of the Kkowir Forest and the Great Tree. After being welcomed into Kerritamba Village, Chief Hosdra of the Myyydril tribe committed an act of betrayal, assassinating the great grandfather of Chief Kerritamba. Although the rest of the Myyydril did not assist Hosdra, the Kerritamba Village exiled the tribe to ensure their own safety. Following their banishment, mystics within the Myyydril tribe revealed they had cursed the forest, causing its plants to wither and die.
However, Chief Kerritamba remained unconvinced that the curse was genuine and that the Myyydril were directly responsible for the destruction of the forest and its Great Tree. Aided by a brave individual, Chief Kerritamba determined that the tree was being poisoned by small streams of water originating from the Myyydril Caverns. After their expulsion, the Myyydril relocated to the caverns. The increased activity within the caverns triggered chemical reactions, initiating a cycle of decay that spread throughout the surrounding forest. Kerritamba enlisted the individual's help in acquiring the necessary ingredients for a cure: an Osera seed, a Ranrt crystal, a Mysess blossom, and webweaver silk. Fortunately, the individual successfully gathered the ingredients. Kerritamba then prepared an elixir capable of healing the tree. The spacer administered the elixir, restoring the Great Tree to health. Hailed as a hero, Chief Kerritamba expressed his gratitude to the spacer and pledged that he and his tribe would dedicate themselves to revitalizing the rest of the forest.
The Great Tree of Kashyyyk made an appearance in the Rage of the Wookiees expansion pack for the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. Players who completed a series of quests for Chief Kerritamba in Kerritamba Village were tasked with collecting the ingredients for an elixir designed to cure the tree. While players had the option to decline Chief Kerritamba's quests, this article assumes a scenario of complete game completion.
