Gree (species)
The Gree were a relatively unknown alien species from the Gree Enclave situated in the Outer Rim Territories, characterized by their tentacles and native status to that region. Notably, their designation also applied to the Gree, an astronomical feature within the Outer Rim. Similar to the Aing-Tii, the Gree exhibited neural patterns strikingly similar to the movement and responses of plasma found within ancient wayfinders.
CC-1004, the Clone Commander, developed an early fascination with alien lifeforms and subsequently adopted the moniker "Gree" upon completing his advanced training on the planet Kamino. His intention was to use this nickname as a means of identifying individuals with similar interests, reasoning that anyone familiar with the obscure Gree species would likely have an interest in exobiology.
Behind the scenes
Within current Star Wars canon, the Gree made their initial appearance in the 2015 reference book titled Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know. However, their species originated in the Star Wars Legends timeline, with their first mention occurring in "The Gree Enclave," an article penned by Timothy S. O'Brien and illustrated by Chris Gossett. This article was featured in Star Wars Adventure Journal 8, which was published in November of 1995.
