Grievous's great-grandmother

A Kaleesh named Qymaen jai Sheelal, known also as Grievous, had a female great-grandmother. This female fought for the united army of Kaleesh, known as the Kolkpravis, on the planet of Kalee during the Bitthævrian War, around 65 BBY. This war began because corrupt officials within the Galactic Republic secretly armed and trained the Kaleesh using Outland rifles produced by Czerka Arms to fight against the Bitthævrian species in the Kadok Regions, which bordered Kalee.

She fought to defend against the Bitthævrian advance, and her great-grandson later participated in the storming of the Bitthævrian homeworld of Guiteica. Sheelal, who later adopted the name Grievous when he became a warlord, inherited his great-grandmother's Outland rifle and learned how to use it from his father before he was eight [years](/article/standard_year/legends] old. The rifle was either destroyed or lost when Grievous's shuttle, called the Martyr, crashed on Kalee around 29 BBY.

Behind the scenes

The great-grandmother of Grievous was mentioned in "The Story of General Grievous: Lord of War," which was an article written by Abel G. Peña that was published in 2006 on Hyperspace, a subscription service that was part of StarWars.com.
