Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro, a Mexican filmmaker, was born on October 9, 1964. He is most famous for directing movies such as Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, The Shape of Water, and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. Furthermore, he was involved in a demo for the canceled Silent Hill game, known as P.T., and the 2019 video game Death Stranding.

Del Toro mentioned in an interview on August 18, 2015, that if given the opportunity, he would be interested in creating a Star Wars film that explores the rise to power of Jabba the Hutt in a style reminiscent of The Godfather. On September 21, 2023, David S. Goyer revealed that he had written a Star Wars film for del Toro to direct around 2019, which had been extensively developed behind the scenes at Lucasfilm before ultimately being canceled. Del Toro verified Goyer's statement via Twitter, while also clarifying that the project was actually in development around 2017. Del Toro later confirmed that the film focused on Jabba's ascent and decline. He further explained that, despite significant work, the project was eventually scrapped, and he views it as "good practice" and remains appreciative of the chance, even though he occasionally feels disappointed about its cancellation.
