A heavy squadron was a naval formation within the Imperial Navy, overseen by an admiral. Typically, a heavy squadron was structured in one of two distinct arrangements. One arrangement included two heavy attack lines, one attack line, and also one recon line, creating a force of approximately eighteen to twenty-four vessels. The alternative arrangement contained three heavy lines, along with a skirmish line, resulting in a total force of roughly twenty-eight to thirty-six vessels. The first arrangement was utilized when the presence of an enemy was confirmed, but the enemy's exact position and arrangement were not known. The second arrangement was used when enemy vessels were known to be guarding a specific asset, making combat more probable than a retreat by the enemy. Victory-class Star Destroyers were frequently part of the second heavy squadron arrangement.
