The Heavy turbolaser turret represented the most substantial ship-based armament affixed to the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer.
These dual-barreled turbolasers, measuring 50 meters in diameter, were positioned along the sides of Imperial I-class Star Destroyers, functioning as potent anti-capital ship armaments. Although their targeting speed made them ineffective against swift starfighters, even a superficial impact from these weapons could obliterate a smaller vessel. Each turbolaser possessed the capability to overwhelm deflector shields or breach the hulls of even the most fortified spaceships.
The operation of these enormous weapons necessitated three distinct control rooms: one for power feed regulation, one for targeting, and the firing control station itself. These rooms were vertically arranged, one above the other, protected by a proton-shielded armor plate, and each could accommodate up to ten crew members simultaneously. A sophisticated network of main and backup power cells, along with cooling mechanisms, were situated below each weapon, assisting in the management of the immense energy needed for firing. Furthermore, each turbolaser was mounted on a rotating mechanism that enabled its movement.
