This type of protective gear shielded the user from harm, for instance, from blaster weapon strikes.
Armor refers to protective coverings, often worn on the body, that are engineered to safeguard living beings and vehicles from the dangers of weaponry and other combat-related threats. It was a common sight among soldiers, bounty hunters, and guards. Some species even developed natural armor as an evolutionary trait.

The renowned warrior clans originating from Mandalore donned battle armor that was both recognizable and inspired fear throughout the galaxy. This armor was constructed using beskar. Their helmets were distinguished by a unique T-shaped visor. During the era of the Clone Wars, a new group of Mandalorians, known as Death Watch, adopted the ancient Mandalorian warriors' armor and embraced their warrior culture. The Death Watch armor was colored blue and grey, and it usually included a jetpack with a built-in single-shot missile launcher. Later, Mandalorian super commandos who were loyal to Maul sported red and black armor. Some even customized their helmets with horns as a tribute to their leader.
Bounty hunter Jango Fett wore Mandalorian armor equipped with a variety of tools, including wrist blades, a jetpack, and a wrist-mounted flamethrower. His clone and adopted son, Boba Fett, inherited this armor and further modified it with various weapons, such as a flamethrower gauntlet, a whipcord launcher, and hidden rocket-dart launchers in his kneepads.

The clone troopers serving the Galactic Republic wore full-body armor crafted from plastoid. Their armor was primarily white, although colors and markings were sometimes added to differentiate rank or status. Trooper helmets could also feature two small flashlights on each side to provide illumination in dark environments. Clone commandos wore armor similar to the standard clone trooper armor. Some clones were equipped with specialized armor designed for underwater combat, and these troopers saw action during the civil war on Mon Calamari.

The stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire also wore full white body armor. Their armor incorporated a diverse array of equipment that allowed them to survive in nearly any environment. Specialized stormtrooper units, such as scout troopers and snowtroopers, wore armor specifically designed for their respective environments. Death troopers, a stormtrooper variant specialized in stealth, espionage, and lethality, wore black armor and helmets that included voice scramblers and advanced sensor technology. The stormtroopers of the First Order also wore white armor, which was produced by the First Order Department of Military Research.
Besides soldiers and bounty hunters, armor was also used by official guards and law enforcement. The Senate Guards and Senate Commandos, responsible for protecting the Galactic Senate, wore distinctive blue armor. The Onderon guards, tasked with safeguarding the royal family on Onderon, wore grey armor and helmets. The Mandalorian Guards, elite bodyguards protecting Duchess Satine Kryze, wore body armor that included a helmet and a large shield. The Coruscant underworld police wore armor constructed from leather and metal. The mechanical eyes that protruded from their helmets led many to question whether they were droids, humanoids, or something in between.

Darth Vader was one individual who used armor as a form of life support. After a fierce battle against Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vader sustained severe injuries and burns. He was reconstructed with cybernetic limbs and a menacing suit of black armor, which he was required to wear for the remainder of his life. The armor sustained his life through mechanical lungs, which produced an ominous sound with each breath.
Jedi wore armors, notably during wartime periods like the Clone Wars. At some point during the High Republic era, the Jedi Avar Kriss was seen wearing a full armor set, absent of a helmet. In addition to Vader's armor, the Ancient Sith Armor, a type of gear worn by the legendary Sith Lord Darth Bane, and the simply named Sith armor were also used by members of the Sith Order.
Certain species possessed naturally thick hides or scales that provided them with built-in protection. This was evident in exceptionally large creatures, such as the rancor, whose armored skin could deflect blaster bolts. The massive Zillo Beast had scales so resilient that they could even deflect a lightsaber. The attributes of one such member of this rare species fascinated Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who was eager to study it further. He relentlessly experimented on the creature, hoping it would lead to the development of a new, robust armor for the troops, starships, and vehicles of the Galactic Republic.
The term "armor" could also refer to the protective plating on a vehicle or the armored hull of a starship. Vehicles and starships designed for combat were generally reinforced with the heaviest armor available.

Examples of heavily armored vehicles include the AAT battle tank, a floating armored assault tank. The Multi-Troop Transport (MTT) was a large armored vehicle capable of transporting and deploying over a hundred battle droids. The largest battle tank in the Grand Army of the Republic was the AT-TE walker, which consisted of two armored halves. Its armor was resistant to small-arms fire, requiring heavier weapons like tanksmasher rockets to penetrate it. The massive All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) used by Imperial ground forces had armor plating that was impervious to blaster fire. The mobile heavy cannon walker tank used by Umbaran soldiers had armor that was resistant to heavy weapons, including anti-armor infantry rockets. During the Battle of Umbara, the attacking clone troopers discovered that the only way to destroy these massive tanks was to use advanced Umbaran weapons against them, which they accomplished by commandeering Zenuas 33 Umbaran starfighters.
Heavily armored starships included the Republic attack cruiser, one of the Republic's largest capital ships. An unusual combat ship was the Trident-class assault ship, which featured a powerful drill designed to penetrate the armored hulls of starships or bunkers, allowing for the deployment of boarding parties.
Heavily armored starfighters included the HH-87 Starhopper, a fighter used by the Hutts. The BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bomber possessed a robust combination of shields and armor, enabling it to execute attack runs on the Death Star.
