The Senate Commandos represented an elite division within the Galactic Republic's Senate Guard. Their duties involved safeguarding the Galactic Senate, the Supreme Chancellor, and other VIPs. Composed of the Guard's most courageous and skilled individuals, these commandos undertook clandestine operations for the government. Their armor set them apart from other Guardsmen, offering superior flexibility and combat readiness compared to the ceremonial attire worn by regular members.
In the course of the Clone Wars, Captain Faro Argyus, an officer belonging to the Senate Commandos, committed treason against the Republic. He aided the Separatists in the rescue operation targeting Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. Following the Republic's collapse, the Senate Guard was discontinued, with stormtroopers and the Imperial Royal Guard of Emperor Palpatine assuming its responsibilities.
The debut of the Senate commandos occurred in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film.
Concerning their depictions in both The Clone Wars film and series, the design of their character models reused the fundamental body structure of a clone trooper. This was modified with a unique blue color scheme, a distinct head, and a prominent scarab-shaped shoulder pad displaying the Senate insignia for the captain.
