Hewett

The Hewett, originating from the Hewett system, were a sentient species that were not humanoid. A formal dinner was once given in honor of Hewett senators, where Konkeel pie was listed as a menu item. This pie presented a toxic substance to humanoids, and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn nearly consumed some before his peer Adi Gallia intervened.

Biology and appearance

The non-humanoid Hewett were a sentient species. Certain components of their diet, notably Konkeel pie, contained a high level of toxicity for humanoids; some individuals are known to have died as a result of its consumption.

History

The Hewett hailed from the Hewett system, in the Mid Rim.

The Hewett system located in the Mid Rim sector – which shares the same name – served as the Hewett's place of origin. A banquet for Hewett senators took place at some point, with Jedi Masters Qui-Gon Jinn and Adi Gallia in attendance. Konkeel pie was offered as a dessert, and Jinn was close to eating some of it when Gallia intervened, explaining the potential danger. After the senators were made aware of the pie's toxicity, they had it removed from the menu and expressed their apologies to the Jedi. The following year, Jinn recounted this event to his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, emphasizing that Gallia had saved his life.

Behind the scenes

Ryder Windham originated the Hewett, mentioning them in his adventure book Episode I Adventures 4: Jedi Emergency, released by Scholastic in 1999.
