The Hewett system existed within the Hewett sector, which itself was a constituent of the New Territories region found in the Mid Rim. Hyperlane connections linked it to both the Vectinia system and the Er'Kit system, the latter of which was situated in the Noonian sector of the Outer Rim Territories'.
Within the Hewett system lived the sentient Hewett species. The system was represented by Hewett senators in the Senate of the Galactic Republic as early as 32 BBY. By 12 ABY, the Hewett system was located inside the boundaries of the New Republic. During that year, Imperial Remnant forces were victorious against the New Republic military during a battle that took place at the system.
The Essential Atlas, a reference book released in 2009 and authored by Daniel Wallace together with Jason Fry, provided the first mention of the Hewett system, locating it within grid square M-6.
