Skimboard
Tash and Zak Arranda have an encounter with hostile Enzeen while riding Zak's skimboard.
A kind of personal transportation was the skimboard, which enabled a rider (typically one individual) to float slightly above ground level. To move the device, it made use of repulsors combined with tiny engines; it could fly roughly one meter off the ground (though that height could be more than doubled with certain modifications). While maintaining balance was crucial for staying on the board, the rider was also secured by sticky goo lines referred to as stick-strips. Located at the back, foot controls managed the board, enabling the regulation of power distribution between the engines and repulsors, thereby maximizing maneuverability.
The board's nimbleness made it well-liked by sports fans, who were known as "slashers" on planets like Alderaan because they would cut through the air performing spins and flips.
Skimboarding could be a risky activity, and falls from the board could cause injuries if the rider didn't have enough protection in the form of a crash helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads. An anti-collision system was also incorporated into the device; this system would try to automatically steer the board away from any obstructions. However, slashers frequently took advantage of this feature in the sport of "going vertical," a trick that involved the slasher traveling at full speed toward a wall. The rider would then bank straight up at the very last second (with the anti-collision system helping) and transfer power to the rear engines, using only the stick-strips to prevent a fall while riding up the wall. Before gravity took over, the majority of slashers were able to ascend the wall by two to three meters, however, the record was five meters.
Zak Arranda also possessed a skimboard at some point; Chewbacca had repaired and rewired it to provide even greater power. The skimboard was essential for escaping the dangerous planet D'vouran, as it allowed him to skim across the consuming surface. Zak even broke the five-meter vertical record by exiting a six-meter-deep pit, despite being weighed down by his sister Tash Arranda, their shapeshifted Uncle Hoole, and his droid assistant DV-9.
A skimboard is stolen by a young Darth Maul.
Shortly after fleeing the Happy Nerf Herder home for young boys, Darth Maul took one of these devices from someone in the Mon Calamari Fish Market. Before crashing into an unidentified Hutt in RIB hutt, he used the device to hover from his building to an adjacent one.
