HT-2200 medium freighter

The HT-2200 represented a medium-sized freighter produced by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Its design was specifically conceived to leverage the widespread appeal of the YT-1300 model.

Characteristics

Compared to any YT-series ship, HT-2200s had a noticeably greater capacity for cargo. Furthermore, they possessed a more robust hull and a superior standard level of weaponry compared to the smaller YT series vessels, although their armament was still considered light relative to their overall size.

The architecture of the hull, along with the power distribution systems, facilitated the addition of supplemental weaponry. However, this would also necessitate an upgrade to the power generator. The majority of HT-2200 owners chose to install enhanced drive systems, with the 1L10 drive from Incom and drives manufactured by SoroSuub being the most commonly selected.

The primary advantage they held over the YT series lay in the design of their cargo bay. The HT-2200's cargo space was segmented into four distinct sections, each featuring independent environmental regulation capabilities. Conversely, a YT series freighter's cargo area, without extensive modifications, was constrained to sharing the same environmental settings as the rest of the vessel. The crew of an HT-2200 had the ability to independently adjust the gravity, temperature, and atmospheric conditions within each cargo bay, separate from each other and the crew area.

History

Despite CEC's expectations for the HT-2200 to achieve significant market success, unfavorable reviews coupled with inadequate support from the manufacturer resulted in its commercial failure. Its sluggish speed and limited maneuverability led to the HT-2200 acquiring a reputation as "pirate bait." In its stock configuration, the HT-2200's benefits were negated by insufficient maneuvering thrusters, a poor lift-to-mass ratio, and an overburdened main power generator. Fortunately, these vessels were as easily modified as their smaller counterparts.

Behind the scenes

The HT-2200 exhibits a striking resemblance to the freighter piloted by Luke and Leia in Star Wars (1977) 38, although it presents some notable differences in specific details. A similar vessel, flown by Chewbacca in Chewbacca (2000) 2, also bears resemblance to the earlier Marvel ship.
