Hyperspace tractor beam

The hyperspace tractor beam, a unique type of tractor beam, was engineered by the Celestials around 1,000,000 BBY. Its strength was sufficient to transport entire stars via hyperspace.

History

This hyperspace tractor beam came into existence as an early iteration of hyperdrive technology. It represented an improvement over the then-current hyperdrives, which demanded immense physical space and energy, making them unsuitable for installation on smaller vessels. This beam allowed these smaller vessels to traverse hyperspace, even without their own built-in hyperdrive capabilities.

Recognizing the potential for larger applications, the Celestials expanded the beam emitters to manipulate increasingly massive objects through hyperspace. Consequently, Centerpoint Station was built as a massive hyperspace tractor beam, capable of relocating entire planets and stars. As the sole station of its kind, its power requirements were so substantial that the Celestials were compelled to position planets in orbit around it for energy generation.

It is possible that the hyperspace tractor beam served as the inspiration for the development of hypergates.
