I4 Ionizer starfighter

The I4 Ionizer starfighter represents a type of starfighter utilized by the Galactic Alliance during both the Sith–Imperial War and the subsequent conflict known as the Second Imperial Civil War.

Characteristics

Two Ionizers disabling a Nune-class shuttle.

The I4 Ionizer was a product of Koensayr Manufacturing, a company well known for creating the Rebel Alliance's commonly used Y-wing starfighter. The I4 shared design elements with the Y-wing in areas like the cockpit and central fuselage. However, in place of the Y-wing's engine pods, the Ionizer featured wings. Its designation comes from its primary weapons: quad medium ion cannons. Additional armaments included laser cannons and two disruptor torpedoes mounted on the wings. Despite having a well-armored hull, the I4's shielding was light due to the interference caused by its potent ion weapons and its shield generator.

Role

The I4 Ionizer was specifically engineered to swiftly incapacitate enemy ships using its ion weaponry. A group of Ionizers could disable small freighters with a single attack. Larger targets, such as capital ships, risked significant damage to critical systems if targeted by Ionizer attack runs. The disruptor torpedoes, mounted on the wings, were even more formidable than the fighter's ion cannons. Each torpedo contained a strong ion capacitor that released energy upon impact, functioning similarly to an ion bomb. The energy released from a single hit could completely disable a smaller ship or cripple systems in the vicinity of the impact when used against capital ships.
