The ICE breaker, a potent computer slicing utility, had its code restricted, allowing access only from a computer system located on the Leviathan. A Rodian inmate being held on the Leviathan bartered it to an associate of Revan, receiving his release from the Sith vessel's prison in return. When questioned regarding how it was secretly transported into his confinement, the Rodian would only state that the Sith did not conduct comprehensive searches. Subsequently, it facilitated the liberation of Revan, Bastila Shan, Carth Onasi, and the remaining members of the Ebon Hawk crew.
The term "ICE" comes from William Gibson's 1984 cyberpunk novel, Neuromancer. Representing Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics, it served as a rudimentary form of antivirus software or a firewall. Individuals attempting to bypass ICE utilized programs referred to as "icebreakers."
