Storyline Summary

Senator Dewell Bronk of Kedorzhan, fleeing the newly established Galactic Empire, finds himself as a passenger aboard a starship departing from the Core Worlds. While on the ship, Bronk observes two young Devaronian individuals harassing and attempting to steal from an elderly Twi'lek woman. Although he wants to intervene, the senator can only manage a quiet murmur, as attracting attention could expose his identity. The Devaronians persist in their harassment of the Twi'lek until the Young Father, as Bronk refers to him, steps in to stop them. This human male, who is carrying an infant, suggests to the youths that they should not bother the Twi'lek. Much to Bronk's astonishment, the thugs immediately agree and leave. After the situation is resolved, Bronk has a brief conversation with the human, mentioning that the baby is likely crying because it is hungry.

Upon arrival at their destination, both Bronk and the Young Father disembark to transfer to another ship heading for the Outer Rim. On his way to the landing pad for the next transport, Bronk witnesses a pair of clone troopers physically harassing an Ortolan janitor. Unable to stand by while an innocent person is being threatened, Bronk shouts at the clones, demanding that they stop harassing the janitor. When his words fail to get their attention, the small Kedorzhan strikes one of the troopers in the shin with his bag and repeats his demand. The clones turn around, release the Ortolan, and arrest the senator, calling out his name and citing the Emperor's authority. Realizing he has fallen into a trap, Bronk accepts his fate.

However, before they can take any further action, the clones are attacked. The Young Father reappears and quickly defeats the troopers using the janitor's abandoned equipment. The Kedorzhan thanks him for saving him but then expresses his despair about his future and how he will have to stand by as such injustices continue to occur in order to expose him. The Young Father replies, suggesting that the senator has other options besides running for the rest of his life. The kind human suggests that by returning to Coruscant and pretending to support the Empire, the senator could help more people than he could while in hiding. The two then part ways, with Bronk deciding to return to Coruscant and the human and his infant continuing their journey to the Outer Rim.
