Jamaal Avery Jr. lends his voice to the character of Kai Brightstar in the animated series for children, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. The announcement of Avery Jr.'s casting in the role was initially made on September 10, 2022, via the official Star Wars Twitter account.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Avery Jr. participated in the audition process for the role of Kai Brightstar. Due to the implemented lockdown measures, Avery Jr. recorded his audition from within his father's closet. In a conversation with Kristin Baver, Avery Jr. mentioned that he shared similarities in both appearance and personality with Brightstar.
