The jamel was a quadrupedal creature with yellow skin that originated on the planet of Utapau. The Utapauan Amani employed jamels as pack animals. During the conflict known as the Clone Wars, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered a jamel close to an Amani settlement during their mission to Utapau and utilized it for transporting a large kyber crystal in a cart.
The initial appearance of the jamel occurred in "Crystal Crisis," the third installment of the incomplete "Crystal Crisis on Utapau" story arc from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, which was a segment of The Clone Wars Legacy project. Although the episode itself did not provide a name, the designation "jamel" was officially disclosed in an article on StarWars.com titled "Monsters of The Clone Wars: A Season Six Bestiary." The design of the jamels draws inspiration from actual camels.
