Jason Aaron

Jason Aaron, an American author of comic books, is notable for his contributions to the Star Wars series when Marvel Comics relaunched it. Within Marvel, he is also known for penning numerous comics featuring Wolverine and the X-Men. Additionally, he is credited with writing Ghost Rider (volume 6), Ghost Riders: Heaven's On Fire, Thor: God of Thunder, and the 2014 crossover event, Original Sin.

Outside of his work for Marvel, Aaron is perhaps most recognized for Scalped, a Vertigo Comics series set on an Indian reservation, which ran from 2007 until 2012.

Biography

Aaron cannot recall seeing the first Star Wars film in a movie theater, but he does remember going to see The Empire Strikes Back accompanied by his mother, a friend, and that friend's older brother. The older brother, having already viewed the film, initially insisted on narrating every scene. Aaron has mentioned that Luke Skywalker was the character he identified with the most. He stated, "Growing up on a farm in the middle of nowhere gave me a basic connection with the longing you see in Luke early on." He possesses an original Darth Vader action figure that is still in its original packaging.

As an adult, Aaron enjoyed viewing The Clone Wars alongside his son, though he was perplexed by the idea that "I'm now supposed to be cheering for stormtroopers, knowing full-well that they're eventually going to wind up as the shocktroops of a ruthless Nazi-like empire." He jokingly compared it to watching a show about the Nazis before they took power, portraying them as "actually pretty cool dudes. Almost as cool as Anakin Skywalker, the other big hero of the series. Who we all know eventually turns out to be Hitler! Is George Lucas crazy-genius or just flat-out f***ing crazy?" In 2014, Aaron readily accepted the offer to write the Star Wars relaunch for Marvel.

Aaron considers the line "All I am surrounded by is fear. And dead men," which comes from Vader Down 1, to be among his favorite lines he has ever written.
