Authored by Troy Denning, Jedi's Honor is a solo adventure gamebook that West End Games released in June of 1990.
Following the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance was in search of a safe location for their headquarters. Luke Skywalker is assigned a dual objective: to scout for a planet that the Empire has not discovered, and to observe nearby star systems along the way. However, in the Sil'Lume Asteroid Belt, the mission takes a personal turn when a local rebel is captured by the Empire, who is rumored to be the son of a Jedi Knight! The question is: should Luke pursue this rumor, or should he prioritize his mission for the Rebel Alliance?
Luke Skywalker—Hero of Yavin and Jedi-in-training—takes center stage in this action-packed story of quick thinking and difficult choices. You will be the one to choose the best course of action and combat his adversaries. Analyzing the situation from Luke's perspective, logic will be your greatest asset. At times, you must rely on Luke's exceptional piloting skills. And sometimes, the young Rebel's developing Force abilities will be the only thing standing between him and utter destruction!
Being a story in the style of a choose-your-own-adventure, Jedi's Honor lacks a single, fixed storyline. However, the story only contains two scenarios that are explicitly marked as "endings." Other paths through the adventure result in Skywalker being captured by the Empire, abandoning his mission, or failing to uncover the secret behind the Rebel activity in the Sil'Lume system. The narrative begins in a cantina situated in the Sil'Lume Asteroid Belt, where Skywalker is in search of a new base for the Rebel Alliance after the Battle of Yavin. He witnesses stormtroopers, under the command of Governor-General Sebastian Parnell, attempting to apprehend Erling Tredway, a peaceful protester against the Galactic Empire. Skywalker can either intervene and fight the Imperials or passively allow the arrest to occur, but regardless, Tredway ends up in captivity. Skywalker encounters two miners from the asteroid belt: Gideon Smith, who harbors a deep resentment towards the Empire, and Sidney Shortfang, a Pada pacifist and follower of Tredway's beliefs. Shortfang implores Skywalker to attempt a rescue of Tredway from the Imperial prison located on Tol Ado, while Smith suggests that they should first warn Tredway's family on 24 Tredway. If Skywalker decides to go to Tol Ado without first investigating 24 Tredway, he will be unable to persuade Erling to leave with him, as Erling is determined to sacrifice himself for his cause. In this situation, Skywalker will be compelled to leave Erling behind and return to the Rebellion. Although Skywalker's infiltration of Tol Ado leads to the exposure of Oro, a Mon Calamarian traitor, Rebel leaders Mon Mothma and Jan Dodonna express their disappointment that Skywalker failed to rescue Tredway, as he was essential to a future Rebel operation. This ending is labeled as "An End," suggesting it is a less than ideal conclusion.
However, should Skywalker choose to visit 24 Tredway first to alert the Tredway family, he discovers Imperials, again led by Governor-General Parnell, bombarding the asteroid and destroying the Tredway mining operation. Together with Gideon and Sidney, he arrives too late to save the Tredway workers, who have been massacred by the Empire. Nevertheless, some droids have survived the attack and lead him to Erling's sister, Dena Tredway, who has sustained serious injuries. Dena, a covert Rebel operative reporting to Mon Mothma, urgently requests that Skywalker rescue Erling, emphasizing his importance to an upcoming Rebel mission. Shortly after, Dena falls into a coma, forcing Skywalker to seek help from Ire Eleazari, an Ithorian friend of the Tredway family who possesses healing abilities. At Eleazari's encouragement, Skywalker proceeds to Tol Ado to rescue Erling. Having visited 24 Tredway first, Skywalker's interaction with Erling unfolds differently. Upon learning that his home has been destroyed and the workers have been killed, Erling has a change of heart and agrees to join Skywalker in an escape. However, Erling is not skilled in combat, and his recklessness results in the death of Gideon Smith. Furthermore, Erling's actions can lead to either serious injury or death for Sidney Shortfang, depending on Skywalker's choices in the scenario. Following an encounter with escapees from the Imperial prison's sub-facility, Skywalker and Erling manage to acquire disguises that allow Erling to impersonate Darth Vader. The arrival of the real Darth Vader creates further complications, but careful decision-making enables Skywalker and Erling to escape on an Imperial shuttle, while Governor-General Parnell is executed by Vader for his incompetence. During their escape, they are intercepted by a squadron of TIE fighters, but Erling instructs Luke to jump to hyperspace while he manually enters the coordinates. If Luke trusts Erling, they successfully escape Tol Ado and reunite with Dena and Ire Eleazari. Upon their reunion, Dena reveals to Skywalker that Erling possesses the unique Force ability to instantly navigate hyperspace jumps. His ability is invaluable to the Rebellion, as Erling can use it to visualize potential Rebel bases and immediately determine their coordinates. After the mission is completed, Dena expresses her hope to see Skywalker at the main Rebel base in the future. This ending is designated as "The End," indicating that it is the preferred outcome, allowing the reader to explore both 24 Tredway and Tol Ado and successfully rescue Erling.
Regardless of whether Skywalker chooses to go to Tol Ado or 24 Tredway first, he may be captured during his mission and imprisoned in his own cell on Tol Ado. In this scenario, Skywalker is unable to fulfill his mission, but he manages to escape the prison and return to the Rebellion. This outcome is marked as a failure, with instructions to return to the beginning of the scenario and try again. Similarly, Skywalker can completely avoid interacting with 24 Tredway or Tol Ado. He can bring back intelligence about the Sil'Lume Asteroid Belt to General Dodonna, suggesting it as a possible Rebel base. While Dodonna supports his proposal, Mon Mothma vetoes the decision, due to her connection with the Tredways and her desire to utilize Erling in the future. Just like his escape from Tol Ado, this ending is also considered a failure, with instructions to start over.
