Jedi Sage
Jedi Sages were Jedi Consulars who participated in the Great Galactic War and the subsequent Cold War around 3653 BBY, fighting on behalf of the Galactic Republic. Even through the Great Jedi Purge, Jedi Sages remained a part of the Jedi Order.
Overview
These Jedi were experts in Force healing in addition to Telekinesis. It was common for Jedi Sages to use a single-bladed lightsaber in battle, and they were skilled in using the Force for ranged attacks. Furthermore, they were skilled trackers, capable of locating individuals across the galaxy through focused meditation.
The designation "Jedi Sage" for specialized Jedi Consulars might have evolved from the term "Sage Master," which historically denoted a Jedi Consular possessing exceptional skill and knowledge. "Sage Master" was used to identify the figures represented by two Bronzium statues located at the Jedi Temple's main entrance on Coruscant, commemorating two Jedi Masters who established the temple around 4000 BBY.
Behind the scenes
Within Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Jedi Sage serves as an advanced class specialization for the Jedi Consular class. This advanced class focuses its abilities on Force healing and telekinesis during combat situations. The Imperial equivalent to this class is the Sith Sorcerer specialization, which is available to the Sith Inquisitor class.
The Jedi Sage was initially revealed with the name "Jedi Wizard." However, after fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the name, BioWare created a poll on the Star Wars: The Old Republic forums, allowing registered users to vote for a new name for the advanced class. The poll options included Jedi Sage, Jedi Seer, Jedi Adept, and Jedi Wizard. Jedi Sage secured the win with 15,251 votes, while Jedi Wizard received the fewest votes with 1,102. The advanced class officially had its name changed to Jedi Sage on December 2, 2010.
