The Jydan Writings functioned as a sacred religious document for both the Jydan faith and the Ni'Shaw-Dak religion, which stemmed from it.
Within the Jydan Writings, accounts are given of the universe's creation and the dominion of the gods over the galaxy. According to these Writings, the Ka'hren species held a position of favor with the gods.
Contained within the Jydan Writings were the doctrines of the various Jydan deities, recorded by each god's three prophets. This contrasts with the other Jydan sacred text, the Volumes of Truth, which was also penned by the three prophets of each god, but focused on the laws and ethics established by the gods.
