Kazz served the Galactic Empire as an admiral. This male Human commanded an Imperial-class Star Destroyer in 3 ABY. His ship transported the Argazdan known as Doctor Raygar to the Forest Moon of Endor. The scientist intended to locate the Sunstar there, a gem rumored to possess magical abilities, for Emperor Palpatine. Kazz doubted the Sunstar's powers and even its existence, but Raygar succeeded in stealing the Sunstar from its Ewok guardians. Despite this success, Raygar refused to display the gem to anyone except the Emperor, who was en route to the Endor system. PD-28, Raygar's droid servant, arrived on the destroyer in an escape pod. Kazz dismissed PD-28's story of escaping Ewok capture and ordered the droid to be recycled. Unbeknownst to Kazz, PD-28 had smuggled Ewoks aboard the starship to retrieve their gem.
While Kazz oversaw operations from the Star Destroyer's command bridge, Raygar tried to use the Sunstar's power to kill Palpatine on the Emperor's shuttle and seize control of the Empire. However, the Ewoks foiled the plot, recovering the Sunstar and fleeing back to Endor. Raygar's betrayal exposed, Kazz arrested the academic for high treason against the Empire. The admiral, having not witnessed the Ewoks or the Sunstar, believed Raygar had invented the magical artifact story as part of his treachery. Consequently, Kazz turned the Argazdan over to the Emperor for punishment.

Within the Galactic Empire's Navy, Kazz, a Human male, achieved the rank of admiral. In the year 3 ABY, Doctor Raygar, an Argazdan scientist who worked with the Empire, desired to undertake an expedition to the Forest Moon known as Endor. The purpose was to find the Sunstar, a gem rumored to have supernatural abilities. This rumor had reached the ears of Galactic Emperor Palpatine, who approved the academic's proposed mission. Kazz, in command of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, received orders to escort Raygar to Endor. Kazz was extremely doubtful about the Sunstar's existence and the Ewoks said to guard it. He considered Raygar's plan a foolish notion and held the scholar in low regard. Despite his reservations, the admiral welcomed Raygar aboard the Star Destroyer and transported him to the Endor system situated in the Outer Rim Territories.

Kazz's skepticism towards Raygar and his mission persisted until the Argazdan scientist departed the Star Destroyer for the forest moon. Raygar traveled in his freighter accompanied by a team of large droids and a smaller droid servant named PD-28. Eventually, Raygar returned to the Star Destroyer, claiming success but refusing to show the Sunstar to anyone except Palpatine. Kazz informed him that the Emperor was already traveling to the Endor system to examine the artifact.
Subsequently, an Imperial escape pod approached the destroyer from the moon. The pilot, identified as Raygar's droid PD-28, claimed to be returning to his master's service. However, the droid had actually defected and was assisting the Ewoks in recovering their stolen Sunstar. Kazz, unaware of the four Ewoks hidden within the pod, permitted it to land in the destroyer's hangar. The droid falsely claimed to have escaped capture by the Ewoks. The admiral reprimanded the droid for being captured, deeming it incompetent, and ordered a larger droid to recycle PD-28.

Meanwhile, Doctor Raygar decided to assassinate Palpatine, using the Sunstar's immense power to replace him as Emperor. Using the gem, he quickly created a cannon powered by the Sunstar. However, an Ewok attacked Raygar, and during the struggle, the Argazdan accidentally fired the cannon. The blast narrowly missed Emperor Palpatine's shuttle, which was landing on the destroyer. Kazz, horrified by the attack, ordered three stormtroopers to apprehend the unknown assailant.
The Ewoks managed to retrieve the Sunstar from Raygar and escaped the Star Destroyer in the same escape pod they had arrived in. Raygar attempted to pursue them, but the troopers Kazz had dispatched apprehended him and brought him to the admiral waiting in the hangar. Kazz charged the scholar with high treason against the Galactic Empire for attempting to assassinate the Emperor. Raygar's pleas were ignored. Kazz had not seen the Ewoks or the Sunstar and concluded that the Sunstar never existed, being merely a fabrication in Raygar's treacherous plot to kill the Emperor. As Palpatine's damaged shuttle landed in the hangar, Kazz handed over his captive to face the consequences of his treason.

As an admiral within the Imperial Navy, Kazz demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Emperor Palpatine. The discovery of Raygar's plot to eliminate the Emperor deeply shocked him, leading to the scientist's immediate arrest. He derived satisfaction from informing Raygar of his impending punishment, dismissing the academic's pleas for mercy. Kazz held a low opinion of individuals whose usefulness to the Empire he questioned. He dismissed Doctor Raygar's mission to find the Sunstar as a fanciful endeavor, openly criticizing the Argazdan for the plan's frivolity. Similarly, when PD-28 claimed capture by Ewoks, Kazz believed a competent Imperial droid would never suffer such a fate. He deemed the droid useless and ordered it recycled into something more valuable. Kazz also doubted the significance of Endor to the Empire, mistakenly referring to the forest moon as a planet.
Kazz possessed a pragmatic, non-superstitious mindset. Despite the Emperor's approval of the scientist's search, he dismissed the magical Sunstar as a figment of Raygar's imagination. He voiced his opinions clearly to Raygar, warning him of the consequences of exaggerating the Sunstar's powers. Following Raygar's failed attempt to seize power, Kazz concluded that the gem was indeed a hoax. Kazz had brown hair and black eyes.
Kazz wore an olive-gray Imperial military uniform and cap. His uniform featured rank insignia consisting of two code cylinders and a pattern of three blue squares above three red squares, differing from the standard rank insignia of other Imperial admirals. During his time in the Endor system, Kazz was typically accompanied by an escort of Imperial stormtroopers or one of the large droids.
Admiral Kazz made his debut in the Ewoks episode titled "Battle for the Sunstar," written by Paul Dini and directed by Raymond Jafelice. The episode originally aired on December 6, 1986. While the spelling of the character's name was initially unclear, Leland Chee confirmed on StarWars.com that the correct spelling is "Kazz."
