Kella Rand was a Human female journalist employed by both the Galactic News Network and the New Republic during the era of the Galactic Civil War.
Kella Rand, while reporting on a crucial vote on Indu San concerning a potential alliance between the Indu San system and the New Republic, witnessed the assassination of Shek Barayel, the chief councilor of the Indu Council. Sensing a major scoop, Rand observed a Council Authority officer tailing Tev Aden, the aide of Ambassador Dictio L'varren, down a corridor. Rand made the decision to follow, only to be intercepted by another Authority Officer. A [blaster](/article/blaster-legends] shot echoed from the hallway; Rand defied the guard's orders and investigated, discovering Aden's corpse, killed by Officer Kaleb Darme. Rand (along with her hovercam) caught a glimpse of Darme taking a detonator from Aden's person.

Upon returning to the Indu GNN bureau, Rand reviewed her previous interviews, spotting Darme planting the bomb that resulted in Barayel's death. She showed this evidence to her colleagues—Crislyn, Juloff, and Robbe Nostler, her supervisor—before rushing to inform Ambassador L'varren. En route, she survived multiple sniper attacks. Upon reaching L'varren's hotel, she saw Juloff and Darme together, realizing that Juloff—still loyal to the Galactic Empire—had alerted Darme. She hurried to Suite 44-1, dispatching her hovercam ahead with the incriminating footage. However, Darme intercepted Rand before she reached L'varren's suite. He forced her into the turbolift, threatened her with a vibroknife, stole her datacards, and incapacitated her with a stun blast. As he fled the turbolift, L'varren's security team, having seen the evidence, apprehended Darme and rescued Rand. Determined not to miss her deadline, Rand quickly left to report her story.
Kella shared a last name with Atton Rand, a notable figure during the Dark Wars.
