Kinkosa rain forest

A rain forest was a feature of the state of Kinkosa located on the planet of Kirtania. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire brokered a deal with the governing powers of Kinkosa to exploit the rain forest for its precious hardwoods.

Description

The rain forest's exterior was characterized by a thick abundance of blue green vegetation; however, the interior was relatively sparse in undergrowth. The lower level of the canopy extended to thirty meters above the ground, while the upper canopy reached heights of eighty meters. The trees were supported by broad buttresses and were covered with woody vines known as lianas. The rain forest teemed with exotic ferns, flowers, roots, and fungi, providing habitats for a multitude of screechers, avians, croakers, slinkers, web weavers, winged floaters, and various insects. The ecosystem of this rain forest was recognized as one of the most intricate within the galaxy. Despite its richness, the soil supporting the rain forest was poor in nutrients; the forest's survival depended on the continuous cycle of growth and decay of its trees. Once an area was cleared of trees and burned to create farmland, the soil would become exhausted within a period of two to five years. Sustaining farming required the introduction of chemical fertilizers.

During the Galactic Civil War, a formal agreement was established between the Galactic Empire and the state of Kinkosa. This agreement stipulated that Kinkosa would receive preferential trade terms in return for allowing the Empire to establish a supply station. The Empire then commenced the harvesting of valuable hardwoods, with the deforested areas repurposed as farmland and grazing land. To maintain soil fertility, the Empire supplied the Kinkosans with the necessary chemical fertilizers, thereby creating a state of dependency on the Empire.
