The former second planet within the Kira system, Kira Prime, met a catastrophic end and was reduced to an asteroid belt.
This volatile asteroid field came into existence from the shattered remains of the planets Kira I, II, and III. The asteroids were mostly held in place by the gravity well of the star Kira; however, some broke free, occasionally creating dangers for hyperspace navigation.
A cataclysm of unknown origin obliterated the initial three planets of the Kira system, leaving behind an erratic asteroid field orbiting Kira, the system's star.
This discovery occurred during a follow-up system survey, conducted some years following the initial one. Additional investigation into the cause of the planetary destruction was considered unnecessary, and the reason remained a mystery.
Later, with the creation of the Kira Run, the asteroids persisted as a minor but persistent threat to hyperspace journeys.
