Kira I

Kira I, a planet situated within the Kira system, was part of the Kira sector found within the Expansion Region. This world lacked any apparent resources of value and was deemed uninhabitable. Long before 70 BBY, Galactic Republic scouts, during a visit to the Kira system, surveyed Kira I years. Sometime after this initial investigation, Kira I, along with two other planets in the system, met its end through destruction caused by a cataclysmic event of undetermined origin, leaving behind only an asteroid field.

Description

Within the Kira system was the uninhabitable planet known as Kira I. This planet, part of the Kira sector in the Trailing Sectors area of the Expansion Region, held the innermost orbital position around its sun.

History

The space around the Kira system saw exploration activity between 8000 BBY and 5500 BBY. The Kira system found itself in a region either unaligned or contested by the Galactic Republic and the Brotherhood of Darkness during the New Sith Wars, specifically near the end between 1004 BBY and 1000 BBY.

Years prior to 70 BBY, a scouting expedition from the Republic paid a visit to the system, only performing a quick sensor scan. The scouting party found no evidence of any valuable resources on Kira I.

Later, a subsequent investigation of the Kira system revealed that the three inner planets, including Kira I, had been destroyed by an unknown cataclysmic event, leaving in their place a massive asteroid field. The reason for the planets' demise remained a mystery to the survey team, leading to the abandonment of any further exploration of the Kira system.

Behind the scenes

Kira I was initially referenced within Twin Stars of Kira, a supplement from 1993 for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games. Stephen Crane authored the section of the book where the planet was mentioned.

The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas situated the Kira system, and therefore Kira I, within grid square N-15. However, the StarWars.com Online Companion for The Essential Atlas subsequently revised the location to grid square N-16, which is the location accepted by this article.
