Kitak Hu

Kitak Hu was a Paigun male, as noted in legends, who was the proprietor of Hu's Emporium. This establishment was a weapons shop that specifically targeted droids as its clientele, and it was located on the notoriously crime-filled planet of Vorzyd V, often called "Gambler's World." Hu's specialty lay in the creation and sale of weaponized harnesses, equipped with automatic weaponry. These harnesses had the capability to transform even non-combat droids into formidable fighting units. During the year 1 ABY, Hu made an attempt to sell a couple of these specialized harnesses to the Rebel droids C-3PO and R2-D2. However, the weapons unexpectedly activated, causing damage to his own store.

Biography

Operating on the Outer Rim world of Vorzyd V, Kitak Hu, a Paigun male, owned and managed Hu's Emporium. This shop was located in the city of Efavan, the capital of the planet, and specialized in providing weapon harnesses for droids, who were frequently targeted by gangs and rogue spacers on the "Gambler's World." Situated in the dimly lit areas of Efavan, Hu's Emporium offered a diverse selection of defensive weaponry for droids. These ranged from small tracking devices to harnesses equipped with automatic weapons, gas grenades, sonic charges, and even a device that allegedly could detect "evil intent" from a distance of 50 paces. Hu was also an inventor, utilizing his shop as both a laboratory and a testing ground for his latest inventions.

In the year 1 ABY, C-3PO and R2-D2 visited Hu's shop. These droids were seeking to enhance the protection of their owner, Rebel leader Luke Skywalker, who had become a target of the Galactic Empire. Given that neither droid was designed for combat, Hu suggested a pair of his harnesses, equipped with his latest automatic weapon designs. Hu personally fitted the harnesses onto the droids. However, the harnesses proved to be cumbersome and difficult to maneuver in, causing R2-D2 and C-3PO to stumble as they attempted to reach the testing area. The impact with the floor unexpectedly triggered the automatic weapons, much to Hu's astonishment, as they were intended to activate only when the wearer was under attack. The activation of the weapons resulted in substantial damage to Hu's store before they eventually deactivated on their own. Despite this chaotic incident, C-3PO and R2-D2 still proceeded to purchase a pair of locators from Hu before departing.

Personality and traits

As his business catered to droids susceptible to theft on the crime-ridden "Gambler's World," Hu was known to exaggerate the effectiveness of the devices he sold, leading to a less-than-trustworthy reputation. Hu had great confidence in the capabilities and safety of his weapons for their users. Therefore, he was considerably surprised in 1 ABY when some of his devices activated unexpectedly, causing damage to his store.

Behind the scenes

Kitak Hu's sole appearance occurred in the Star Wars Legends continuity within Gambler's World. This was a comic strip story arc written and illustrated by Russ Manning and published in 1979.
