Kooroo was an ancient, insightful seer and wise man. He is thought to be the author of the meditations found within the scroll called the Teachings of Kooroo. He eventually rose to prominence as the spiritual guide for the Fellowship of Kooroo, a religious group. This group viewed the ancient Shrines of Kooroo, among other locations in the galaxy, as Kooroo's lasting impact. However, scholars have debated whether Kooroo was truly connected to these shrines.

Kooroo was an ancient individual, both a sage and a visionary, who also practiced a forgotten mystical religion. The scroll known as the Teachings of Kooroo, supposedly containing Kooroo's meditations, was located in Shiin's Library in the Mos Eisley spaceport settlement on the Outer Rim Territories planet Tatooine around 85 BBY. Nibao Glumm, a Mos Eisley local, described the scroll's supposed meditations as "rambling."
In time, Kooroo became recognized as the spiritual leader of the Fellowship of Kooroo, an ancient cult with mysterious origins that was active during the Galactic Civil War. The Fellowship considered certain landmarks across the galaxy, including the ancient stone Shrines of Kooroo, to be relics or signs left by Kooroo. Fellowship members made a pilgrimage to these locations, where they meditated to achieve the "enlightenment of Kooroo," which many believed referred to telepathic abilities. The reporter Andor Javin mentioned Kooroo in a TriNebulon News report in 2 ABY.
By 11 ABY, most scholars agreed that the Kooroo species, an advanced alien race, built the Shrines of Kooroo. However, the purpose of the structures, and whether there was a real connection between the shrines and the individual named Kooroo, remained unclear at that time. Even the origin of the name "Kooroo" was speculative.
Kooroo was first referenced in Platt's Starport Guide, a roleplaying game sourcebook for West End Games published in 1995. Peter Schweighofer was the author.
