A Sauvax kuuvan after a raid is shown.
Kuuvan represented a significant aspect of the cultural identity of the Sauvax species native to the planet known as Leritor. The term "Kuuvan" encompassed dual meanings, signifying both "tribe" and "tribal settlement" in their language.
When viewed as a settlement, a kuuvan consisted of multiple stone-built dwellings situated close to the high-water mark of the shoreline. It's known that, at least in one instance, the tevelor, serving as the kuuvan's leader, resided within the largest structure. Kuuvans commonly featured fish-drying racks, along with a communal gathering space that included a raised stone platform for public speaking. Furthermore, they incorporated pools carved into the rock and covered by sturdy domes for food storage, as well as tidal pools cultivated by the Sauvax for the production of algae and crustaceans.
Upon the arrival of Humans on Leritor, they engaged in negotiations that resulted in the Settlement Pact being established with the Sauvax. According to the terms of this treaty, Humans and other extraterrestrial entities, including starships, were prohibited from approaching the coastline, effectively restricting access to the kuuvans. However, under particular and exceptional circumstances, the Sauvax demonstrated a willingness to extend invitations to trusted ambassadors, allowing them to visit their community.
A Dark Side Adept identified as Profex Rynalla launched an assault on a kuuvan situated on a slender peninsula, employing blasters and weaponry from a starship. Rynalla's objective was to eliminate the elderly and vulnerable Sauvax, while abducting the remaining members for enslavement. Given that Rynalla's presence on Leritor remained concealed, she anticipated, correctly, that the other kuuvans would attribute the attack to the Human settlers. Nevertheless, a solitary young female Sauvax survived the onslaught by remaining hidden and witnessing the events; furthermore, Rynalla's subordinates committed several errors that had the potential to clear the Human settlers of any blame.
