Lactil
The lactil was a malodorous, ungulate, gregarious mammal from the planet Chad in the Jospro sector. These tame creatures were farmed for their milk, which was processed into cheese and caf creamer. These products were exported, giving Chad a good reputation throughout the galaxy. Despite the limited grazing land on Chad, lactils had a high milk production capacity.
On the other hand, despite their economic importance to Chad, lactils emitted substantial amounts of methane gas. This resulted in frequent, immense storms on the planet. Han Solo of the Rebel alliance described the origin of one of these storms in 5 ABY while piloting his starship, the Millennium Falcon, towards Chad with Leia Organa.
Behind the scenes
The lactil's debut occurred in Queen of the Empire, a 1993 book penned by Paul and Hollace Davids as part of the Jedi Prince collection.
The term "lactil" is capitalized in Queen of the Empire, but Fantasy Flight Games's 2015 Stay on Target sourcebook uses lowercase. This article adopts the latter's capitalization, given its more recent publication date.
