In 28 BBY, Laerron Woern's birth occurred on the planet of Elom. During the Galactic Civil War, Woern engaged in pirate activities, leading a pirate fleet that included some small assault ships and more than two hundred pirates from various races, such as Humans, Rodians, Gamorreans, and Elomin. He established his operational hub within the Drup's Star system's asteroid field, known as Woern's Asteroid. Woern's pirates launched raids without discrimination, targeting starships belonging to the Galactic Empire, the New Republic, and even civilians. Their typical targets involved lightly guarded cargo fleets, defenseless passenger liners, and sizable civilian cargo transports. However, Woern increasingly focused his efforts on the New Republic; his most recent eight attacks were directed at New Republic assets. Reports indicated Woern's presence on Korbin, a planet within the Atrig system, where he was suspected of acquiring intelligence about New Republic trade routes from spies who had infiltrated the government. The New Republic announced a bounty of 25,000 credits for Woern's apprehension, citing piracy and theft as the reasons. The Elomin Council, viewing Woern's actions as a stain on the Elomin's reputation, added an extra reward of 10,000 credits.
Standing at a height of 1.75 meters, Laerron Woern was a male Elomin. He possessed qualities such as being a skillful negotiator, a con artist, a gambler, and a capable commander.
Woern received training in the use of both a blaster and melee weapons. He had a deep understanding of alien species, their cultures, languages, and various planetary systems. Furthermore, Woern was acquainted with bureaucratic processes and interactions within the criminal world. He possessed the ability to plot courses through hyperspace and manage the communications, sensors, armaments, and deflector shields on board spacecraft. Woern was also able to operate repulsorlift vehicles and had training in demolitions and bypassing security systems.
Laerron Woern carried a heavy blaster pistol and a sword as his weapons. His personal flagship was a modified Gamma-class assault shuttle.
In 1993, West End Games released a sourcebook titled Wanted by Cracken which contained a profile of Woern. Mike Jackson provided the image of Woern.
