Lanz Carpo, a minor planet situated within the Core Worlds, had an exceptionally elevated incidence of criminal activity for the area. This planet was under the dominion of Boss Carpo and his organization, the Carpo Crime Syndicate. The Galactic Empire never occupied it, because Carpo gave them information about numerous members of the Rebel Alliance. To divert Imperial attention from other rebel activities, General Carlist Rieekan of the Rebel Alliance dispatched Leia Organa and Han Solo on a mission to Lanz Carpo, aiming to deceive the Empire into believing Carpo was collaborating with the rebels.
