Lark and Jonk, known as the twins, were Danzikan individuals existing in the era of the Galactic Empire, specifically during its reign.
The characters of Lark and Jonk were conceived for the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, part of the Star Wars Anthology. Their initial appearance to the public was in the movie's debut trailer. Their formal naming occurred with the publication of Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, a companion book by Pablo Hidalgo that launched alongside the film.
Jake Lunt Davies, a designer focused on creature concepts, stated in a StarWars.com interview that Ivan Manzella's design approach for Lark and Jonk, similar to Glaucus, drew from the aesthetics of space monsters popular in the 1950s. Manzella sought to emulate the design sensibilities that would have been prevalent had Solo premiered in 1965, which is twelve years before 1977, the year that Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, the first Star Wars movie, was released.
