Leb Slesher

Leb Slesher was a male Human who operated as a secret agent for the Imperial Security Bureau during the Galactic Civil War era. After the Battle of Yavin, Slesher went undercover, working at the Kaadara cantina located on Naboo. This corrupt Imperial operative exploited his authority by using fabricated evidence and enforcing little-known Nabooian rules to illegally extract payments from honest local merchants.

Biography

Forged Evidence

In the time following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, a male Human named Leb Slesher was working covertly as an agent of the Imperial Security Bureau in Kaadara, a small city by the ocean on the verdant world of Naboo, which is situated in the Mid Rim. During his time stationed there, Slesher frequented the local cantina, where he presented himself as an "expediter of merchant relations."

As a corrupt representative of the Galactic Empire, Slesher took advantage of his position to demand illicit payments from law-abiding merchants in the area. One such case involved Phinta Lianovi, a businessperson who was falsely accused of accepting smuggled goods. Slesher knew that the evidence used to support this accusation was fake, yet he exploited the situation to extract a processing fee from the innocent merchant to resolve the "mistake," which he said required "extensive bureaucratic processing." Rather than meeting Lianovi face-to-face, Slesher delegated the task of collecting the processing fee to a subordinate at a secret rendezvous point in the wilderness. Aware of potential dangers, Slesher cautioned his underling to be wary of troublemakers, claiming that some locals might violently oppose such transactions. The subordinate, a spacer who was unaware of Slesher's ISB affiliation, agreed to secure the payment from Lianovi. Upon arriving at the rendezvous location, the spacer was violently assaulted by four commoners who attempted to interfere with the transaction, just as Slesher had predicted. Forced to defend themselves, the spacer eliminated them. Lianovi, left with no alternative, handed over the processing fee in the form of a datadisc. However, in the process, the businessperson implored the spacer to tell Slesher not to file the report. Lianovi also hinted that the spacer's boss was connected to the ISB and that someone had been manipulating images to falsely portray legitimate merchants as smugglers. Despite this revelation, the spacer returned to the cantina in Kaadara to deliver Lianovi's payment. Slesher praised his underling for completing the assignment and suggested that they try some of the Zadarian brandy at the bar before seeking him out for another job.

The Restaurateur

Before long, Slesher became involved in another scheme to illegally obtain payment from a local Naboo merchant. Naboo Commercial Code regulation 142.74.A-6502.4.16/3 Section 453 Paragraph 2 stipulated that Imperial officers were entitled to military discounts. However, many merchants were unaware of this obscure regulation, a fact that Slesher exploited. One particular restaurateur, named Cornevero Dawlton, was documented by Slesher to have refused to honor this discount. To rectify the situation in exchange for a fee, Slesher again enlisted his underling to collect payment from the merchant at a prearranged rendezvous point in the wilderness. Slesher's underling, now suspicious of his true allegiances, inquired about who he truly worked for, as Lianovi had suggested he was an agent of the ISB. Slesher responded evasively, neither confirming nor denying the allegation, while subtly warning the spacer not to delve further into the matter. With that, the spacer agreed to carry out Slesher's assignment. Before departing to the specified coordinates, Slesher cautioned his underling to be mindful of local wildlife, as they could be dangerous. During the journey to meet Dawlton, the spacer was attacked by a peko-peko, which was subsequently killed. When the spacer finally located Dawlton, the merchant expressed surprise that Slesher had not come in person, as Dawlton had prepared a dish of stuffed nuna for him as a gesture of goodwill. Nevertheless, Dawlton gave the spacer Lesher's payment, which Dawlton openly referred to as a "bribe." With the payment in hand, the spacer returned to Kaadara to deliver the fee to Slesher.

Romantic Gesture

At the Kaadara hotel, a man named Tamvar Senzen sought to gain favor with Leb Slesher, or perhaps to learn more about him, as he considered Slesher an important person who socialized with many individuals. To help Slesher have a "good time," Senzen planned to introduce him to a woman named Shandara. However, the woman was actually a Rebel Alliance scout. Senzen believed she could help Slesher "keep track of his work." Whether this was a genuine gesture or a way to spy on Slesher remained uncertain. Regardless, Senzen believed Shandara to be a wonderful woman and therefore enlisted the help of a passerby to find her and safely escort her back to the hotel, so that he could arrange a chance encounter between her and the Imperial agent.

Personality and traits

Leb Slesher possessed fair skin, brown hair, and green-colored eyes. As an ISB agent, Slesher operated covertly as an expediter of merchant relations. However, he used his position to enrich himself and indulge in various alcoholic beverages and exquisite foods at the local cantina. He readily used forged evidence and obscure commerce regulations to extort fees and bribes from legitimate Naboo merchants. Slesher enjoyed various types of beverages at the Kaadara cantina, and recommended to his underling to try such drinks as spiced paricha, Merenzane Gold, Rodian ale, Zadarian brandy, and Garwillian champagne. He also loved food, and recommended trying the fried thakitillo, Vagnerian canapés, zwil cakes, Lobster Bisellian, and Corellian air cakes sold at the bar.

Equipment

As a covert operative, Slesher wore ordinary clothing, including a gray longsleeve shirt, beige work slacks, and black dress shoes.

Behind the scenes

Leb Slesher was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. Players who completed a series of quests for Slesher were required to obtain a datadisc from Phinta Lianovi and Cornevero Dawlton. Each quest awarded 50 credits. While players had the option to decline Slesher's quests, this article assumes 100% game completion.

Cut content

Numerous players have suggested that Slesher originally offered one or two additional quests, which could apparently be completed. However, these quests reportedly lacked any text dialogue strings, making it impossible to derive much context from them. While the game's directory tree files and source data do not provide any information on a fourth quest, they do contain some information on a third, in which players would have been required to obtain a processing fee in the form of a datadisc from a Naboo politician. The fee would have been used to hire an "expert" slicer to review some data. Beyond this, information on this potentially existing third quest is limited, and it is not definitively known to have appeared on the live servers in a fully functioning capacity. Due to the ambiguity surrounding these additional tasks, this article only considers the first two quests to be definitively canonical in Legends in terms of continuity. Elsewhere in Kaadara, players could interact with another NPC named Tamvar Senzen. According to the game's directory tree files and source data, Senzen was supposed to offer a quest in which players would find a woman for Slesher named Shandara and escort her back to Kaadara. However, the Senzen quest NPC was broken, and this quest was never implemented on the live servers.
