Lhunu was a male Rakata character, defined in legends, who existed during the Rakata Esh-kha conflict, which engulfed the entire galaxy and resulted in the Esh-kha kingdom's demise. Lhunu spent almost a thousand years within the subterranean vaults of Belsavis, a world used as a prison. He and the Esh-kha were roused from their long sleep during the Galactic War due to an attack launched by the Sith Empire. After being captured, he attempted to establish a new kingdom, but was later freed by the individual known as the Barsen'thor.
Around 25,200 BBY, Lhunu was a member of the Infinite Empire at the time of its destruction by the Esh-kha, a species that deemed the Rakata unworthy. Lhunu disagreed with certain Infinite Empire policies and sought to make amends for the Esh-kha's wrongdoings. He aimed to assist in freeing Hallow Voice and his adherents, despite considering them too dangerous to be released. As the galaxy-wide conflict raged, the Rakata transported Hallow Voice and thousands of Esh-kha to Belsavis. They were placed in deep stasis within the prison world's underground chambers for nearly a millennium.
In approximately 3641 BBY, the Sith Empire initiated widespread riots on the planet to liberate crucial prisoners, which caused damage to the stasis chambers and freed all the Esh-kha, including Lhunu. Commander S. Geland, revealed to be a Child of the Sith Emperor, incited some of the Esh-kha to revolt against the Republic. Lhunu found himself trapped in the maximum-security zone but managed to escape before receiving assistance from the Barsen'thor, an apprentice of Jedi Master Yuon Par.
Following his successful liberation, Lhunu told the Jedi that he was trying to atone for the Esh-kha's imprisonment. The Rakata eventually gave the Jedi the coordinates to locate Hallow Voice and his loyal followers. When Geland seized control of the security systems and trapped the Jedi, Lhunu was able to guide the Jedi in defeating the Child and freeing Hallow Voice from his confinement. After reconciling with the Esh'kha after all these years, Lhunu resolved to forge a new path for the future.
