Liberator-class cruiser

The Liberator-class cruiser, alternatively known as the Liberator Cruiser, represented a potent frontline capital ship. It was conceived by the SoroSuub Corporation with the express purpose of countering piracy. Despite its streamlined and relatively compact dimensions, this cruiser packed a significant punch, boasting a powerful arsenal of turbolaser and ion cannon batteries. Furthermore, it could accommodate six starfighter squadrons alongside three troop regiments. Both the Sullustan Home Guard and the Rebel Alliance deployed the Liberator during the Galactic Civil War. Its advanced armor plating, shielding, and cutting-edge drive unit technology made it one of the most sophisticated warships in the galaxy.

Characteristics

Also referred to as the Liberator Cruiser, the Liberator-class cruiser was a heavily armed capital ship produced by the Sullustan-operated SoroSuub Corporation. Even though it was small, the Liberator-class cruiser had a lot of offensive weapons, such as turbolasers and ion cannons.

The slender design of the Liberator belied its capacity to house up to six starfighter squadrons and three troop regiments. It also included a hyperdrive. The Liberator, roughly hexagonal in shape, featured a prow that extended into twin, angled mandibles. Recessed in the center of these mandibles were two exposed launch bays. Thanks to its superior shielding, modern hull armor, and innovative drive unit technology, the Liberator-class cruiser was among the most technologically advanced warships present in the galaxy.

Role

The Liberator-class cruiser, conceived as an antipiracy platform, was engineered to engage entire armadas of smaller pirate vessels. It proved to be a capable participant in frontline space combat. While a significant threat to other capital ships, the Liberator was often susceptible to attacks from enemy starfighters.

History

During the Galactic Civil War, the Sullustan Home Guard, a fleet established by the SoroSuub Corporation to protect the planet of Sullust from pirate incursions, included the Liberator-class cruiser among its capital ship designs. After the Battle of Yavin, the Alliance to Restore the Republic also incorporated the Liberator into its naval forces.

Behind the scenes

The Liberator Cruiser was a brand-new starship model that was made for the 1998 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion. During gameplay, the cruiser is available to the Rebel Alliance as a more advanced design than the Alliance escort carrier. Strongholds of Resistance, a 2015 supplementary resource for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game, later gave the ship the name Liberator-class cruiser.
