Maddie Macatten

Maddie Macatten, a Bith of the female persuasion, had reached what was considered an advanced age by the year 8 ABY. Her past included being a slave on the planet Kal'Shebbol, situated within the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Macatten's liberation came about when the Aing-Tii, a peculiar species known for their aversion to slavers, killed her master during a trade expedition. Following this event, she commandeered one of her former master's ships, specifically the Scupper Bantoo, and ventured into the Kathol Outback. Establishing herself as a merchant, Macatten dedicated her days to the pursuit of the Aing-Tii homeworld, driven by a desire to express her gratitude for her freedom.

Biography

On the planet Kal'Shebbol, the capital of the Kathol sector, resided Maddie Macatten, a Bith of the female variety, who was also a slave. The Aing-Tii, a race famed for their intense dislike of slavery, inadvertently granted Macatten her freedom when they killed her master. Macatten, now free, took possession of her former master's Gymsnor-2 light freighter, named the Scupper Bantoo, and piloted it out of its docking bay. Her destination was the Kathol Outback, where she reinvented herself as a merchant. Utilizing the Scupper Bantoo, she traversed the various worlds of the Outback, trading in both replacement machinery parts and luxury goods with the colonies she encountered. Although Macatten made several improvements to the Scupper Bantoo, its age limited the extent of possible upgrades.

During her mercantile activities, Macatten actively sought any information pertaining to the Aing-Tii. Her ultimate goal was to locate their hidden homeworld and offer them her personal thanks for liberating her from slavery. While much of the information she gathered was based on rumors and conjecture, the residents of the Outback considered Macatten a valuable source of knowledge about the Aing-Tii. She also possessed the rare knowledge that the planet of Shatuun was inhabited by a mated pair of Star Dragons, a fact known to very few. In the course of her travels, Macatten crossed paths with the crew of the New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar, which was engaged in a mission to apprehend the renegade Imperial Moff, Kentor Sarne.

Personality and traits

Macatten, a Bith with black eyes, possessed exceptional close-range vision, capable of discerning objects within a thirty centimeter radius with remarkable clarity. However, her eyesight diminished significantly when focusing on objects beyond twenty [meters](/article/meter-legends], and she was unable to see anything past forty meters. Macatten also had the ability to detect the scent of individuals within a three-meter radius, allowing her to gauge their moods and emotional states. Furthermore, she possessed excellent manual dexterity, which aided her in operating delicate tools and engaging in pickpocketing.

Macatten exhibited signs of mild senility, often engaging in conversations with herself, albeit rarely completing a full sentence. She was prone to rambling on about various topics when in the company of others, leading some to believe she was mentally unstable. Despite possessing a wealth of information, much of it was inaccurate. Nevertheless, her words often contained elements of truth. Her rambling nature often caused others to lose interest before any useful information could be gleaned. Macatten frequently hummed Bith folk tunes while working, and her primary life goal was to find the Aing-Tii homeworld to express her gratitude for her indirect liberation from slavery.

Macatten possessed the skills to fly, repair, and modify space transports, as well as navigate through hyperspace. A seasoned trader and businessperson, she was a skilled negotiator and could accurately assess the value of goods. Macatten had extensive knowledge of the Kathol Outback, although not all of it was reliable. She also possessed a broad understanding of alien species, cultures, and languages, and was quite streetwise despite her growing senility. She was also a capable pickpocket and con artist when necessary, and was known to gamble. Despite her advanced age, Macatten maintained a reasonable level of fitness, enabling her to climb, jump, and evade danger when required. Technically proficient, she could also operate repulsorlift vehicles, program and repair computers and droids, and administer first aid. Skilled with a blaster, she carried a sporting model for protection. Additionally, she carried a datapad, comlink, various tools, and 250 credits.

Behind the scenes

Maddie Macatten's creation was for The Kathol Outback, a supplement for The DarkStryder Campaign, which was published by West End Games. The intention behind her creation was for her to be used by the Gamemaster as a tool to introduce information (or even deliberately false information) to the players regarding the Aing-Tii species, and also as a potential source of replacement parts. It was also suggested that Macatten could potentially join the crew of the FarStar, which is the player character's main ship, if the Gamemaster wished for her to do so. In 2008, an entry for Maddie Macatten was included in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
