Maggis taught before the rise of the Galactic Empire. He held the position of navigation and sublight technology professor at the Celestial School of Spaceflight Engineering located on Argus. With the Empire's rise to power, he transitioned into an Imperial officer, accepting a role as a guardian advisor at the Imperial Naval Academy on Coruscant. Disliking his role as an Imperial officer, he chose to assist Trever Flume's escape during Flume's attempt to rescue Lune Oddo Divinian. Flume guided him to the underlevels of Coruscant, where Dexter Jettster facilitated his transformation into one of the Erased.
