Mairayni's Palace Guard was Pars Varqom, who was a member of the Royal Naboo Security Forces before his retirement. Varqom made reference to his service under the queen within the 2453rd volume of the Royal Archives of Naboo.
The character Mairiyani was conceived for The Essential Guide to Warfare, a reference book from 2012 authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. She was intended to appear in a segment called "A Soldier's Story: Naboo Invaded," but ultimately, that segment was omitted from the published version. Subsequently, the section was made available on StarWars.com on March 18, 2014, as the sixth installment of a blog series that shared content that had been cut from the guide.
