The makorr represented a predatory species of aquatic beings within the galaxy. Their dietary needs were met by consuming the flesh of mollusks. During the time of the Imperial Era, Captain Thrawn successfully located a band of iridium smugglers by observing several boats which had discarded a significant amount of mollusk meat, which in turn drew a substantial gathering of makorrs. Due to their haste in smuggling the iridium contained within the mollusk shells away from the planet, the smugglers opted to discard the meat instead of carefully scattering it along their route.
