Malarian laser pistol
The Malarian laser pistol represented a form of portable laser weaponry employed across the galaxy in the waning years of the Galactic Republic era. Specifically, in 22 BBY, on the planet of Ansion, a pair of these pistols were wielded by Borokii warriors serving as sentinels. These warriors were part of a welcoming party for a Jedi delegation arriving to mediate a peace accord between the Borokii, the dominant clan of Ansionian nomads, the Alwari, and the more technologically advanced Ansionians residing in cities represented by the Unity Council.
Behind the scenes
The initial depiction of the Malarian laser pistol occurred in Alan Dean Foster's 2002 novel, The Approaching Storm. The source material remains ambiguous about the weapon's origin, leaving it unclear if the Malarian species themselves, or a member of the Malarian Alliance, a pact involving both Ansionians and Malarians, was responsible for its creation.
