One hemisphere was a frigid, arid desert, leading the Jedi hunter Ochi to speculate that a cataclysmic event had ravaged Malathon IX, leaving it to gradually cool down. Conversely, the remaining half of the world was a rain forest, with a thick and vibrant jungle spanning both hemispheres of Malathon IX. During the era of the Clone Wars, Ochi engaged in a hunt for the Jedi Master Depa Billaba on Malathon IX for a duration of five days, until he encountered Billaba's Master, Mace Windu.
